Revamp Your Weight Loss Routine: 4 Unique Ways to Shed Unwanted Pounds
Tired of the same old weight loss advice? Discover four simple, science-backed strategies that can help you finally achieve your goals
We’ve all heard the usual weight loss tip of “Burn more calories than you eat,” and to be quite honest with you, I’m tired of hearing it without being given any further guidance on exactly how to do it. But even if you’ve tried that tip over and over, you probably still feel stuck, wondering why nothing works. Instead of focusing on “eat less and move more,” why not try some new ideas that actually work? It might be exactly what you need to finally see results!
If you’re ready to learn new ways to manage your weight and feel healthier, I swear by these health hacks. Try them out and you’ll start seeing progress too!
Eat a Big Breakfast, Not a Big Dinner
Most people eat a small breakfast and a big dinner, but that might not be the best idea. When you eat your meals is what can change how your body burns calories and uses energy. This weight loss trick doesn’t mean eating breakfast food at night. Instead, it means flipping your meal sizes—having a bigger breakfast and a smaller dinner.
Eating a heavy breakfast can give your body the fuel it needs to stay active and burn calories throughout the day. In fact, a study I read found that people who eat large breakfasts burn twice as many calories as those who eat large dinners. This helps with weight loss and keeps your energy balanced.
Try eating your biggest meal in the morning and something lighter in the evening. This simple change can make a big difference in how your body burns fat—it did for me.
Sleep More to Weigh Less
One area I went wrong in was thinking that weight loss only applied to any efforts I made while I was awake. But that’s not true at all. Getting enough sleep is just as important as the weight loss efforts you make while you’re awake!
Here’s what happens: When you don’t sleep enough, your body makes more of the hunger hormone called ghrelin. At the same time, it lowers the hormone leptin, which tells you when you’re full. This can make you feel hungrier and cause you to eat more than you need.
Sleep also affects how you think and feel. When you’re tired, it’s harder to make healthy food choices because your body craves quick energy, like salty or sugary foods (for me, it’s Lay’s sour cream and onion chips). The bad part is that it leads to overeating junk food.
But when you get enough rest, your body works better. You’ll feel hungry only when you really need food and stop eating when you’re satisfied—not stuffed. All in all, sleeping well helps you stay on track and make better choices for your health!
Keep Meals Simple
We all get bored eating the same meals, don’t we? I know I do. But having go-to foods, like turkey burgers or spaghetti, isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Science shows that keeping our meals simple can actually help with weight loss. The next time you’re tired of your plate, remember to K.I.S.S.—Keep It Super Simple.
It’s okay to add some variety to your meals, but too much variety can cause you to eat larger portions. When there are too many different colors, textures, and flavors on your plate, it’s easy to lose track of how much you’re eating.
If you’re trying to eat fewer calories or be more mindful about your food, stick to simpler meals. Save the fun, colorful dishes for lighter options, like salads packed with fruits and veggies. Keeping things simple can make it easier to stay on track and reach your goals!
Take Care of Your Gut Health
It might feel a little weird to talk about, but I’m going to talk about it anyway— Pooping is important for your health, and it can even help with weight loss! Everyone’s body is different, but most people go to the bathroom anywhere from three times a day to three times a week (I won’t go into my own bathroom schedule); This frequency is considered normal. However, things like your age, what you eat, and how active you are can change how often you go.
If you’re not going as much as you should, there are easy ways to help. Try adding more fiber to your diet or drinking a glass of warm lemon water in the morning to get your digestion up and running.
