For some, a workout plan for your wedding doesn’t sound too appealing, but you have to think of the dress! There’s nothing worse than finding a dress you love but you don’t like it when you put it on. This is when you’re encouraged to find a dress that fits your body, right? And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, what if the dresses that fit your body are just not your style? I’m a firm believer in doing what you need to do to get what you want.
So, in other words—if you’ve found a dress you just have to have, but you’re not exactly where you want to be physically to fit it perfectly, work for it!

Pre-Wedding Workout Tips
Give Yourself Time
I know the wedding excitement has kicked in, and you’re ready to marry the love of your life yesterday! However, planning a wedding takes time, and starting a fitness routine requires time for results and to build sustainable habits.
Start your wedding fitness journey at least six months before the big day (preferably 12 months out). Trust me, waiting until the last minute is draining—I've been there, trying to squeeze into a dress that's a little too tight, and let me tell you, it’s not fun and definitely not healthy! A good fitness routine should be built gradually, with a healthy diet and exercise that boosts your strength, flexibility, and energy. You want glowing skin and a body that feels strong and confident, not stressed and exhausted.
Start Small
I know the idea of working out might seem intimidating, especially if you're new to it or haven’t been consistent lately. But don’t worry! The key is to start small, and trust me, you’ll get the hang of it. Try a 10-minute full-body workout to begin with. It doesn’t have to be fancy! Even just getting up and moving for a short time will start to build your strength. Before you know it, you'll be able to do a full-hour workout without even thinking twice about it.
Mix Cardio and Strength Training
Now, let’s talk about mixing things up. I’m a huge fan of strength-building exercises that make you feel strong AND graceful. For me, it’s about feeling powerful in your own skin and walking down that aisle with confidence. To get the most out of your fitness routine, you’ll want to include both cardio and strength training. Cardio helps you burn calories and boost your heart health, and strength training helps tone and build muscle. And don’t forget, many wedding dresses highlight your upper body, so targeting your arms and back will really help you feel confident in that dress.
Target Your Core
When it comes to shaping your waist and improving your posture, focusing on your core is a must. Of course, spot reduction isn’t real, but when I say target your core, I’m specifically talking about getting in the kitchen! Sure, you can indulge in side planks, crunches, and oblique twists but the real progress will show from what you eat. A good rule of thumb is to make your plate as colorful as possible and drink lots of water!
Your Wedding Fitness Timeline
12 Months Out
Start slow and build up your routine. If you’re new to working out, a 10-minute walk with your dog can be a great place to start! Stretching, yoga, or even dancing around your living room will get your body ready for more intense workouts down the road.
9 Months Out
This is when you can start exploring different types of workouts to see what you enjoy. Whether it’s spinning, barre, or HIIT, the key is finding something that you look forward to. The goal is to make exercise a fun part of your routine!
6 Months Out
Now it’s time to really commit! Try to block out an hour for both cardio and strength exercises. Cardio helps with fat burn, and strength training will tone and sculpt your muscles. Don’t forget about your core—planks, side planks, and a well-balanced diet (and portion control) can really help shape that waistline!
5 Months Out
Keep building up your workouts. Four to five times a week of cardio and toning exercises will help you see some real changes. Also, focus on a clean diet—cut out the sugar and processed foods, and try to add more green juices into your day. Your skin, energy, and overall well-being will thank you.
2 Months Out
Stress levels may start rising as your wedding day approaches, but don’t let it affect your fitness goals! Keep working out, but switch it up with a fun cardio dance class to keep those good vibes flowing. Remember to also take time for self-care—facials, massages, and getting enough sleep will help you look and feel your best.
1 Month Out
Now is the time to fine-tune your routine. Try kickboxing or Tai Chi for stress relief, and keep eating clean. You’re almost there!
1 Week Out
You’ve done the work! Don’t overdo it now. Keep your workouts light, and focus on eating healthy to keep your energy up. Have some calcium-rich foods like leafy greens to support restful sleep and keep your skin glowing.
Wedding Day
The big day is here! A light 10-minute workout or a dance session will help you shake off any nerves. Eat healthy, stay hydrated, and get ready to enjoy the best day of your life!
